The Birch Lane Elementary School Bond Project includes a new multipurpose facility with open space to accommodate assembly seating for the entire school (up to 650 students). This new and improved space will include a stage, music room, warming kitchen, staff, student and all gender restrooms as well as utility infrastructure improvements.

HMC Architects
The new gym facility will have competition basketball and volleyball courts, bleachers with 1,200 seats, lobby with concession space, physical education (health) classroom, three team rooms, trainer room, conference room and new coaches’ offices. The building is 20,328 sq ft.

QKA Architects
The project site encompasses 33 acres and several free-standing structures totaling 200,000 square feet. A bridge, entryway and corridor interconnect a cluster of specialty and general classroom buildings to a theatre building, a cafeteria facility and a gymnasium with two gyms.

As a part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District’s new construction, modernization, and renovation bond program, the Ford Elementary School was entirely transformed with a $19M replacement project.
The improvements included the following:
Complete demolition of the existing campus
Construction of new two-story campus (after demolition of existing campus)
Site work included staff parking, play yard, play field, and community garden.

The Fred T. Korematsu Middle School is a complete campus reconstruction/conversion project, transforming what was once an elementary school into a compact/efficient middle school for 600 students. This new school includes classrooms, a multipurpose and administration building, performing arts, library/media center, gymnasium, play areas and on-site parking – all centered on small learning communities concept.

Hibser Yamauchi Architects
The new Helms Middle School campus, replacement of old campus, has three two-story classroom buildings, administration offices, library, gymnasium complex, multipurpose/cafeteria building, and community spaces. The new campus can house up to 1,070 students in a 140,000 sq. feet campus. Measure J Bond provided the $70 million needed to rebuild the school, $54 million for the main campus and $16 million for future demolition of the old campus and new field construction.

El Cerrito High School, constructed on the site of the original high school, is a new campus consisting of six large buildings, enclosing a total area of 192,000 square feet. The innovative new campus is designed around a courtyard with a large cornerstone building housing administrative offices, a performing arts theater, and a library. Construction value is $57,384,902.00.
